The beginnings...

About twenty years ago I got a lemon tree, its owner got bored with it, because it never wanted to produce, and it was a little too big. I brought it home, and for long time it was just there. Once I became a little mad and cut-back its sprigs. The next year a little fruit grew on it, and it yields regularly from that time.
In the meantime I bought some other citrus but they didn’t really survive. They didn’t like the heated room, and the fact that in summertime I forgot to water them sometimes.

I felt sorry for them leaving outside in the cold, because in summer they got so big and strong. To be honest only this big tree was enduring itself, although once I was about to kill it with tap water.
In 2000 I saw the orangery of a citrus breeder, and I believed I would be able to do something like that. I began to read bibliography and surfing the internet. The more I’ve read the more I began to understand the life condition of these wonderful plants. Meanwhile I began experimenting on my old tree the learnt things. I found out that the breeding of these plants is not so difficult; you just have to pay a little attention to them. Slowly I began to raise the number of the plants, and I keep them with a quite big success. Of course at the beginning I managed to destroy some, but everyone learns from his own fault, and won’t do them again. By now I’m lucky to have collected about thirty species, and I also breed some of them with grafting, cuttings propagation. Sometimes because of fatigue or overwork you tend to be reclusive in your solitude, then I visit my plants, and get totally refreshed, even if I putter with them and do my everyday business.

Then you realize that the more you learn the more awaits for you. There is a great variety of subspecies even in the term of this not so big kind of group of species. It occurs often that even now I get stuck with something, or I am not fully satisfied of the facts I’ve found. In these times someone tends to collect all those ‘colleagues’ whom he trust and rely on. Thank God I met two men whose words worth as much as the Bible for me :-) (Attila from Balatonmáriafürdő and Józsi from Szigetvár) I hope that we will be able to discuss over our experiences, and we can help each other in any issue that occurs. We sustain many “conciliums” with my friend Józsi, in lots of questions. His knowledge and truly intense love of him towards these plants is a real appreciation for me. And of course his vast collection t isn’t a negligible thing either. Attila is the person who always tries to get me everything with an unbreakable determination, even that that seems to be unattainable; he has beautiful and healthy plants. He is a reliable and valuable partner; seldom can someone achieve a fruitful relation like this. (blogs and photos can be found under Partner Sites)
